Each new patient experience is designed to cover and address your clinical story from birth to present, and integrate all organ systems, addressing any symptoms within all areas of your body and an extensive health intake, innovative lab testing and personalized nutrition and lifestyle support.
This is very different from the conventional doctors visit where you may see numerous different doctors, in short visits and discuss one problem isolated to one organ system and if you have another problem you are referred to a different doctor at a different time. 3. Assessing Your Baseline
You will have the opportunity to have an extensive advanced blood panel, that includes cutting edge testing. For tests that are done at home, that include other specific functional medicine tests, we will walk you through step-by-step instructions. Learn more about our Advanced Diagnostics.
You will have a 60 minute initial consultation with Dr. Rashel and have the opportunity to discuss all of your health concerns and any life events from birth to present day.
You will review your story, entire medical history, your Functional Medicine Health Assessment Form and health questionnaires together.
Dr. Rashel will also utilize and populate the Functional Medicine Matrix seen below as related to your unique personal story. She will use the information to connect the dots and begin to identify and address the root causes of your symptoms identifying which systems are out of balance and what root causes have potentially contributed to the imbalances and the interconnectedness of the systems.
She will formulate an initial plan for you after considering all the information gathered and populated in the Functional medicine Matrix and connects the dots, including specific lifestyle, diet, nutrients, and in depth testing to further investigate and identify root causes of your health concerns and treat them..
Blood tests will be ordered, as well as possible Functional testing that can include functional stool tests, salivary and urine tests that look at hormones, in depth thyroid assessment, inflammatory markers, nutrients vitamins and minerals, cardiovascular markers, gut health and beneficial bacteria and imbalanced flora, digestion, adrenal health, and toxin status are among common initial assessments.
The blood tests are unique and comprehensive and include advanced biomarkers and tests that are not usually assessed by conventional doctors and even many contemporary doctors in this unique way.

After the initial consultation you will start to implement the points from your personalized plan with targeted treatments to address root causes of your symptoms. Blood tests should be done as soon as possible after your first visit and results will return 7-10 days later.
Results for Functional Testing often takes a bit longer and is usually reviewed on subsequent appointments and used to further build upon and fine tune initial plan and treatments implemented based on your blood work.
Your initial follow up lab review will be 2 weeks after your first consultation. During this visit all laboratory markers and results are discussed with you in detail and correlated with your symptoms. Your treatment plan is further customized to include other targeted treatments such as bio-identical hormones, customized natural compounded thyroid medications, injectable vitamins, and personalized, targeted synergistic nutraceuticals.
Your following visit is usually 6 weeks after your Initial Follow up and includes blood tests to follow up and monitor any abnormal results or hormone levels found on initial testing that we have been treating or nutrient, inflammatory and other metabolic markers that may have been abnormal on your first test to assess improvement.
On a case by case basis and depending on the complexity of the problems at play subsequent visits are usually 3-4 month intervals after that until balance is reinstated after which follow ups are to monitor twice per year.

Once your lab work has been completed, Dr. Rashel will explain the meaning of your test results to you in your initial follow up consultation . She will also create an individualized health program for you which will include one or more of the following: dietary changes, nutritional supplements, bio-identical hormones, thyroid supplementation,
other more natural medications, exercise, lifestyle and stress management and if needed further testing recommendations.
Subsequent consultations are scheduled to monitor your progress, follow up on abnormal lab results and assess improvement, monitor nutrient and hormone levels and to modify your program.
In general, most patients especially those with any chronic health problem can plan on the new patient consultation, Initial Follow up and about 4 follow up appointments after that within a one year period of time.
Once your health is Re-balanced which usually occurs within the first year with often significant improvement within the first few appointments, protocols should be followed and maintained while appointments get more and more spread out. The average patient can expect to return to a functional medicine physician about two times per year or every 6 months for follow up.
